John Sheets Obituary

John R. Sheets, 77 of Whitestown, was called home on Thursday February 22, with his family by his side.

He was born on January 8, 1947, to the late Arthur Burl and Dora Elizabeth (Pedigo) Sheets in Lebanon, Indiana. John graduated from Sheridan High School, Class of 1965, after graduating high school he went to work for Biddle Components in Sheridan.  John was called to serve in the United States Army in 1966, when he returned home from serving his country honorably, he returned to work for Biddle’s until his retirement he had work for them for 35 years. John also farmed and raised turkeys, he would raise around 11,000 turkeys a flock, he was proud of the fact that he was supplying food to families.

John and Evelyn met when he was 15 and she was 12, John didn’t know it at the time, but Evelyn knew that she was going to marry him one day, and on June 17, 1978, the two of them were married in Grand Rapids, Michigan and they have been at each other’s sides for the last 45 years.

When John was not working, he could be found tending to his garden that he took so much pride in, he was a talented wood carver, he carved some amazing things out of wood. He was also an avid birdwatcher he had several different bird feeders for specific types of birds all over his yard, he would sit in his yard for hours watching the various types of birds that would come and feed.

John was a World War II history buff, and he would watch World War II documentaries.

John was a man of faith and integrity and one of his many callings was to mentor the younger generation he would especially spend time in the turkey barns mentoring the younger people that worked for him. He wanted to see people successful in life.

John and Evelyn are members of First Community Church in Lebanon. When it came time for the two of them to start a family, having a good solid foundation built on faith was especially important to them both.

John’s family will always remember how great of a father and husband he was, and they will never forget the values he taught them. He will be greatly missed by his wife Evelyn (Dykstra) Sheets, their three sons Aaron Burl Sheets, Mark Richard (Kathryn) Sheets and Timothy John Sheets and his Fiancé Katie Moore, He was a proud grandfather to Alexis Breanna Sheets, Natalie Quinn Sheets and Killian Graham Sheets.
